Massachusetts Party
Monday, January 19, 2009 at 09:55AM Yesterday I was lucky enough to have been invited to the Massachusetts Democrats Party (despite me being from Connecticut) at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. Luckily, out hotel was only a stone throws away from the Dupont Circle metro stop, so it was fairly easy for me to travel to the stadium. Ben Goodman, Moderator of The Weekly Filibuster and member of the Maine Democratic Executive Committee, also joined me.
I wanted to purchase the Obama Commemorative SmarTrip Card for the metro, so I stopped half way to the stadium at the Metro Center stop, waited in line, and finally purchased a couple cards (see picture below). We then proceeded to Nationals Park and arrived off the metro at about 8pm, and entered the ballpark. The Democrats sure know how to put on a party, that's for sure. They essentially rented out both of the restaurant/bars (Diamond Club and the President's Club) in the stadium and a few hundred people from Massachusetts came. We ate some traditional ballpark food - chicken fingers, burgers, hot dogs, sausage - but also made our way to the real food - pork, pasta, and those classy appetizers that are small and peculiar. We mingled with a few people from Massachusetts and walked around the park. We were also lucky enough to see the Nationals' locker room and their batting cages (where we took a few swings ourselves).

We left the party at around 11:15pm (the party officially ended at 1am), and made our way back to the metro and waited for close to an hour before we actually made it back to Dupont Circle. I heard reports that they held the train up because there were so many people who thought the last train was at 2am, not 12am. We made the best of our time and met a Nigerian man, whom we interviewed (see below).
Well, now I am off to get ready for the day's activities. On the docet today: meeting up with some people from Maine, volunteering at RFK Stadium to assemble care packages for the troops, and whatever else D.C. brings me.

Ben Goodman and I ran into this gentleman on the metro and decided to interview him.
Inauguration 2009: In D.C.
Sunday, January 18, 2009 at 03:57PM Well, I made it. Despite the heavy traffic, intense security, and massive groves of people, I am safely in my hotel and gearing up for the inauguration.
I will be in D.C. from today until Wednesday evening, witnessing history with the other million-plus people visiting the district.
Tonight I will be attending an event for the Massachusetts Democrats at the new Nationals Stadium, which is bound to be a good experience. Dining with party leaders from the Bay State will be a nice way to kick-off the festivities.
I will update later tonight.
